Pyramidal European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata') — A graceful deciduous tree with a naturally narrow, upright pyramidal form, dark green foliage, and smooth grey bark. Its dense branching structure and excellent shape make it a great choice for formal landscapes, streetscapes, screening, and areas where a more compact shade tree is desired. Hardy, adaptable, and tolerant of pruning, it performs best in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil. Mature size: 12–18 m (40–60 ft) tall × 6–9 m (20–30 ft) wide.
